Our Funders
Our community involvement work would not be possible without the generous support of a number of organisations (noted in order of date the grant was received, newest at the top).
Many thanks to Dunbar Community Council who awarded us £1,644 in June 2024 towards the purchase of a new fridge in the shop, which helps us dramatically cut our food waste.
In May 2021 we received a National Lottery award of £91,800 from The National Lottery Community-Led Fund to fund three years’ work on community food and sustainability projects, including Sunny Soups, weekly cooking lessons and Sunny’s Kitchen, a weekly community meal. In June 2024 we were absolutely delighted to receive a further £70,500 to continue this work.
We are grateful to The Ridge for coordinating a community grant application to the Investing in Communities Fund, from which we were awarded £26,020 to fund Cook Club for two years from April 2024.
In February 2021 we were awarded Adapt and Thrive grant funding to improve the systems and processes used in the Community Carrot. Adapt and Thrive is part of the £25m Community and Third Sector Recovery Programme.
Sunny Soups has received funding from:
We receive valuable support from project partner Dunbar Parish Church: since 2018 we have been granted the generous use of the church hall and kitchen for free
The Scottish Government’s Covid-19 Supporting Communities Fund (thank you to Sustaining Dunbar for securing this grant)
Vegware have sent us a free monthly supply of compostable soups pots since 2018, slashing our single-use plastic waste.
The Co-op Superstore Dunbar, who donated £150 towards a label printer.
Sunny’s Kitchen has received support from:
Edinburgh Local Community Grants, kindly secured by The Ridge
The Co-op Superstore Dunbar
KidsFoodJourney has been partly funded by Active Schools East Lothian.
Our series of Belhaven Community Garden cook-outs was funded by Dunbar & East Linton Area Partnership, also organised by Sustaining Dunbar.
To part-fund the buying of our electric van we received a grant from SpareWheels. CoMoUK provided funding to cover the cost of branding it up, with generous pro bono design work from Kate George Design.
We were awarded a grant of £6,388 from the Scottish Government’s Community Climate Asset Fund, for a bank of refillery dispensers and an e-cargo bike to help reduce local carbon emissions through the reduction of single-use plastic and our delivery emissions. The CCAF is a Scottish Government fund, administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful, and 279 community-based organisations across Scotland have been awarded more than £3.2 million of funding to tackle climate change. Further details from www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org/ccaf
We are grateful to Community Windpower and BeGreen Dunbar for a grant of £1,480 to pay for a secure storage container to house the e-cargo bike.
The Scottish Land Fund saved the Crunchy. The award they made us in 2019 allowed us to buy the building and assets, and also funded our Development Officer role for over a year.
We received advice and support in this funding application from The Plunkett Foundation and Community Shares Scotland, who also advised us on HR matters.
